BREATHE. PRACTICE

The Spacious Pause

A gentle 5-minute practice for creating room around thoughts, emotions, and internal pressure.

You do not have to clear your mind or make anything disappear.

This practice invites you to notice what is present, receive the breath as it is, and create a little more room around your experience.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Nothing has to leave for space to begin opening.

You may sit, lie down, stand, or choose any position that feels supportive.

Keep your eyes open, softened, or closed. Let your breath remain natural at first.

If anything feels uncomfortable, shorten the practice, return to your natural breath, or stop completely. There is no need to force calm, release, or stillness.

Give yourself about 5 minutes.

BE HERE

Meet the moment as it is.

Notice the surface beneath you and the space around you.

Let your attention settle on a few simple details: the temperature of the room, the sounds nearby, the feeling of your clothing against your skin.

You do not need to become calm before you begin.

I am allowed to begin with what is here.

RECEIVE THE BREATH

Let the breath come to you first.

Notice the breath without trying to improve it.

Feel where the inhale arrives most easily. Notice where the exhale softens or releases on its own.

Let the breath be something you receive before it becomes something you guide.

I do not have to rush the breath.

EXPAND

Create a little more room around what is present.

Notice where the breath can gently widen through the belly, side ribs, back body, or space beneath the heart.

You do not need a bigger breath. Let it become a little rounder instead.

As you breathe, imagine a little more space opening around the thought, feeling, or pressure that has been taking up room.

Nothing has to disappear for space to begin opening.

ALLOW THE PAUSE

Notice the quiet space after the exhale.

Let the exhale leave gently.

At the end of the breath, notice the natural pause before the next inhale arrives.

You do not need to hold your breath or make the pause longer. Simply notice that a small space already exists.

The pause is not empty. The pause is listening.

TEND WHAT IS HERE

Offer care before asking for change.

Notice what is asking for your attention right now.

It may be a feeling, a sensation, a need, a boundary, a question, or simply tiredness.

You do not have to solve it. Let yourself acknowledge it with a little more softness.

I can make room for what is here.

LISTEN BENEATH THE NOISE

Notice what becomes clearer when you stop rushing to answer.

Let the breath return to its natural rhythm.

Notice whether a need, truth, boundary, feeling, or quiet knowing has become easier to hear.

You do not need to force an answer. Silence is allowed to be part of the practice too.

I can listen before I move.

EMERGE WITH SPACIOUSNESS

Return with a little more room.

Let the breath move naturally again.

Notice what feels wider, softer, clearer, or simply easier to witness.

The original thought or feeling may still be here. The practice is not asking it to disappear.

You are simply returning with a little more space around it.

There is space within me.

CLOSE THE PRACTICE

Carry the spaciousness with you.

Take one more easy breath.

Feel the support beneath you and notice the space around you.

You do not need to leave with everything resolved. Let the room you created be enough for now.
